Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked the people of Haryana after the BJP secured a third consecutive win in the state. He said the people have chosen his party based on development and good governance.
In the 90-member Assembly, the BJP won 48 seats, two more than the required majority of 46. The opposition Congress won 37 seats, according to the latest data from the Election Commission of India.
During his address at the BJP headquarters following the announcement of the Assembly results in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, PM Modi also celebrated the election outcome in the Union Territory. He described the peaceful polling process as “a victory for the Constitution and democracy.”
In Jammu & Kashmir, the National Conference-led alliance, including the Congress and CPI-M, won 49 seats. The BJP put up a strong performance, securing 29 seats.
“On such an auspicious day (the sixth day of Navratri), the Lotus (BJP’s symbol) has bloomed for the third consecutive time in Haryana. Truth has triumphed in the land of Gita. Development won in the land of Gita. Good governance won in the land of Gita. People from every caste, every class have voted for us,” PM Modi declared.
Peaceful Elections in J&K Highlight Victory for Democracy
Referring to the Jammu & Kashmir polls, the Prime Minister said: “After decades of waiting, peaceful elections were finally held in Jammu & Kashmir. Votes were counted, and results were declared. This is a victory for the Constitution of India, a victory for the democracy of India.”
“The people of Jammu & Kashmir have given more votes to the National Conference and their allies, and I congratulate them on that. However, based on vote share, the BJP has emerged as the biggest party in Jammu & Kashmir. I congratulate all the candidates who won in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir,” he added.
People Reject Congress in Haryana
In Haryana, where the BJP secured a hat-trick of victories, defying most exit polls, PM Modi said: “Today, in Haryana, the guarantee of development has outweighed the opposition’s lies. The people of Haryana have made history. So far, 13 elections have been held in Haryana, and in 10 of them, the people changed the government every five years. But this time, they have given a government that completed two terms a chance to continue. This is unprecedented.”
PM Modi thanked BJP workers for their hard work and acknowledged the efforts of BJP national President J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He attributed the victory to their leadership and the party’s development agenda.
Slamming Congress for its reaction to the results, PM Modi said: “People in most states have put up a ‘No Entry’ sign for the Congress. They used to think they could retain power whether they delivered results or not. But today, they have been exposed. Congress treats power as its birthright. When out of power, they behave like a fish out of water. This is why they do not hesitate to put the country and society at risk.”
He continued: “The Congress is spreading caste-based division. Those born with a silver spoon want to make the poor fight over caste. The Dalits, backward classes, and tribals should remember that Congress oppressed them for decades. It deprived them of food, water, and shelter.”
