‘Haryana Poll Results Not Acceptable, Will Approach EC With Complaints’, Says Congress After Defeat

The Congress party will approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) over alleged irregularities in the Haryana elections. Senior leader Jairam Ramesh expressed disbelief at the results, claiming they contradict public sentiment. “The results are totally unexpected. They go against what the people wanted—a mandate for change,” Ramesh stated on Tuesday.

Ramesh also alleged that intimidation affected the election outcome. He highlighted serious complaints about the counting process and the functionality of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in three districts. “We received complaints about EVM malfunctions in Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat,” he said.

Claims of Manipulation Surface

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera supported these claims. He called the election a “victory for manipulation and a defeat for democracy.” Khera said, “We have serious complaints about counting and EVM functioning. We will present this to the Election Commission. This is a victory for manipulation, subverting the people’s will.” He criticized the election process and noted that Congress candidates submitted grievances to local officers.

The Congress also focused on developments in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Conference-Congress alliance has secured a clear mandate there. Ramesh stated that the coalition’s priority would be restoring statehood. Earlier, Congress raised concerns about a slowdown in updating poll results on the ECI website. The ECI rejected these claims, asserting that the counting process involves observers. Latest data shows the BJP set to win at least 48 seats in Haryana, ensuring a third consecutive term in government.
