The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom and networking products attracted Rs 3,998 crore in investment, slightly lower than the committed Rs 4,014 crore, according to a report tabled in Parliament on Wednesday. Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as non-MSMEs actively participated in the scheme.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha that 42 firms were approved to receive benefits under the PLI scheme for telecom products by October 31.
To reduce import dependency and boost the manufacturing of telecom products, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) launched the PLI scheme with a total financial outlay of Rs 12,195 crore.
In June 2022, the government amended the scheme’s guidelines, offering an additional 1 percent benefit for products designed, developed, and manufactured in India.
Earlier, the government reported exports worth Rs 12,384 crore by September 30 under the PLI scheme for telecom and communication products.
The applicant firms achieved total sales worth Rs 65,320 crore by September, according to Minister Pemmasani.
The PLI scheme for telecom and networking products includes 33 products, with incentives ranging from 4 to 7 percent. It also offers an additional 1 percent incentive for MSMEs for the first 3 years and another 1 percent for products “Designed in India.” This strategy encourages innovation and manufacturing within India, helping local manufacturers compete globally with high-quality products at competitive prices.
