Indian equity benchmarks opened on a mixed note on Tuesday as investors tracked uneven global cues and assessed the impact of the newly introduced Closing Auction Session framework.

The Sensex began the session nearly 500 points, or 0.63 per cent, higher at 79,132.97. In contrast, the Nifty slipped below the 24,750 mark, declining 70.4 points, or 0.28 per cent, during early trade.

Most sectoral indices came under selling pressure as investors booked profits in several heavyweight segments.

The Nifty Realty, Cement, IT, FMCG, Auto and Private Bank indices fell by up to 1.5 per cent. The Nifty Metal index emerged as the only major sectoral benchmark trading in positive territory.

Market analysts expect the headline indices to remain range-bound in the near term. They believe company-specific developments will guide trading as investors monitor global events, corporate earnings and fresh domestic macroeconomic signals.

Global markets maintained a cautiously positive tone as investors evaluated the latest US corporate results and assessed the interest rate outlook following the US Federal Reserve’s recent policy decision.

The absence of major negative overnight developments provided some support to domestic sentiment.

From a technical perspective, analysts expect the Nifty to find immediate support between 24,450 and 24,500. They identified the 24,750–24,800 range as a key resistance zone.

A decisive move above this level could strengthen the rally, while declines towards support may attract buying interest.

Rising crude oil prices and mixed trading across Asian markets kept investors cautious.

Wall Street closed sharply higher overnight, with the S&P 500 gaining 1.48 per cent and the technology-focused Nasdaq advancing more than 2 per cent.
