Indian equities began the week on a positive note, with benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 registering gains in early Monday trading, tracking encouraging signals from international markets.

The Sensex rose by over 450 points to trade above 77,100, while the Nifty crossed the 24,000 mark, gaining around 0.6 per cent.

Buying interest was visible across multiple sectors, particularly in real estate, pharmaceuticals, information technology, automobiles and banking stocks.

Despite the broader uptrend, some stocks faced selling pressure, with Axis Bank, Shriram Finance and Bajaj Finance among the notable decliners in early deals.

Sectoral indices reflected the positive sentiment, with realty and pharma shares leading the gains, followed by IT, auto and PSU banking stocks.

The broader market also performed well, as midcap and smallcap indices outpaced the benchmark indices.

The India VIX eased slightly, indicating a modest decline in market volatility.

Market experts noted that the Nifty remains within a limited trading range, with key support levels around 23,800–23,900 and resistance near 24,200. They suggested that a decisive breakout above resistance levels would be necessary for a sustained upward move.

Recent developments, such as trade agreements and corporate deal activity, have aided domestic sentiment, though global factors continue to influence investor behaviour.

Participants are closely monitoring the upcoming policy decision by the Federal Reserve, along with major economic indicators and earnings reports from global technology firms.

At the same time, rising crude oil prices, weakness in the rupee and ongoing geopolitical tensions are seen as potential risks that could keep markets volatile in the near term.

In global markets, Asian indices showed a mixed performance, while US equities ended the previous session higher, providing support to investor confidence at the start of the week.
