Indian stock markets Sensex and Nifty recorded gains for the fourth straight trading session on Tuesday, supported by strong buying interest towards the close and guarded optimism ahead of the Reserve Bank of India Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decision.

The BSE Sensex climbed 507.73 points, or 0.69 per cent, to settle at 74,616.58. At the same time, the Nifty 50 rose 155.40 points, or 0.68 per cent, to end at 23,123.65.

Trading remained subdued for most of the session, but a surge in buying activity during the final hours helped indices close firmly in positive territory. Analysts observed that underlying support is driving the recovery, although short-term positioning appears to influence it.

“Going ahead, continuation of this momentum may push the index towards the 23,500–23,600 resistance band,” an analyst stated, referring to key technical levels for the Nifty 50.

IT and metal stocks were the primary contributors to the day’s gains. Leading performers included Wipro, Hindalco Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, and HCLTech.

Conversely, PSU banking stocks came under pressure, with the Nifty PSU Bank Index emerging as the weakest sector during the session.

Mixed Broader Market Performance

In the broader market, trends remained uneven. The Nifty MidCap index recorded a modest gain of 0.20 per cent, whereas the Nifty SmallCap index edged down by 0.06 per cent.

Among sectoral indices, IT, realty, and metal segments outperformed, reflecting targeted buying across these sectors.

Market participants maintained a cautious stance ahead of the MPC outcome scheduled for Wednesday. The Reserve Bank of India is largely expected to keep the repo rate unchanged, although its commentary will be closely analysed for indications on future policy direction.

Analysts noted that despite ongoing global uncertainties and domestic policy considerations, investors remain selectively optimistic.

Markets continue to display resilience, with immediate support seen around the 23,000 level and stronger demand emerging at lower ranges. However, the next directional move is likely to depend on the central bank’s guidance and evolving macroeconomic conditions.
