Indian equity markets opened on Tuesday on a cautious note, with both the Sensex and Nifty sliding in response to weak cues from Asian markets. Early selling pressure pushed benchmark indices lower, reflecting investor caution.
The Sensex opened nearly 200 points down at around 85,025 and fell further to trade approximately 300 points lower in early trade.
The Nifty also came under pressure, slipping 95 points, or 0.4 per cent, to trade around 25,935. The index remained within a consolidation range of 25,900–26,100, indicating market indecision.
“Immediate resistance is placed at 26,150–26,200, with a decisive breakout potentially paving the way toward 26,300. On the downside, key supports are seen at 25,900 and 25,850 in the near term,” experts noted.
Among the Sensex 30 constituents, Eternal emerged as the top loser, falling nearly 3 per cent. Axis Bank, HCL Technologies, Infosys, and Titan were also trading lower in early trade. In contrast, Bharti Airtel supported the market by rising more than 1 per cent.
Broader markets also declined, as the BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices fell by around 0.4 per cent each.
Sectoral weakness was visible in metal and financial stocks during the morning session.
The slide in Indian markets mirrored trends in Asia following declines on Wall Street. Investor sentiment remained cautious as funds continued to move away from US artificial intelligence-related stocks.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.27 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi extended losses for the second straight session, slipping 0.75 per cent. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200, however, was largely flat.
Domestic and foreign investor activity showed mixed trends on Monday. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,427.57 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 1,734.91 crore, partially offsetting the outflow.
Global cues remain fragile. Analysts suggest cautious trading in the near term, with a focus on key support and resistance levels to gauge market direction.
