Aerospace giant Rolls-Royce announced on Monday its ambitious plan to double its supply chain sourcing from India over the next five years.

The company aims to expand its procurement of critical parts for aerospace engines, naval propulsion systems, diesel engines, and gas turbines, marking a significant push to strengthen its presence in India’s defense sector.

Rolls-Royce Expanding Global Sourcing In India

Currently, Rolls-Royce sources high-precision parts and engine components from Indian suppliers for its civil aerospace, defense, and power systems divisions.

However, the company did not disclose the total value of the products sourced from the country. The company’s strategy to enhance its Indian sourcing comes as India rapidly evolves into a global hub for sourcing and manufacturing.

Nicola Grady-Smith, Chief Transformation Officer at Rolls-Royce, emphasized the importance of India in the company’s growth strategy. “India is quickly becoming a key hub for global sourcing,” she said, adding that Rolls-Royce seeks to expand its partnerships in the country to drive business growth while also contributing to India’s “Make in India for the World” initiative.

Rolls-Royce Strengthening Supplier Relationships

Rolls-Royce is keen to build on its existing network of suppliers in India. Over the years, the company has assisted Indian manufacturers in meeting international quality standards.

Grady-Smith highlighted that the focus is now on fostering stronger ties with both existing and new suppliers, aiming to build their capability to produce complex engine components for the global market.

Building Local Capabilities For Global Impact

The company’s ongoing efforts are aligned with India’s broader vision of becoming a self-reliant defense powerhouse. Rolls-Royce has already made significant investments in India, including partnerships with skilled labor forces and advanced engineering capabilities. The company’s contributions have extended to transferring technology for licensed engine production in India’s defense sector.

Alex Zino, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Future Programs at Rolls-Royce Defence, noted the importance of India in the company’s long-term strategy.

“Enhancing the supply chain now will create a strong foundation for future joint production opportunities,” Zino stated. He also emphasized that the move will further support India in its mission to become a self-reliant defense giant.

Commitment to India’s Armed Forces

In addition to expanding its supply chain, Rolls-Royce is committed to supporting India’s armed forces and collaborating on the development of advanced combat engine technologies.

The company also maintains a joint venture with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), further cementing its strategic role in India’s defense sector.
