Report: Tata Plans Construction of India’s Largest iPhone Manufacturing Plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu

Over 50,000 people would be employed when Tata constructs one of India’s largest Apple iPhone manufacturing plants in Tamil Nadu.

Tata plans to construct India’s largest iPhone assembly facility in Tamil Nadu as part of an effort to increase the production and manufacturing of Apple products in South Asia. Hosur will be the location of the facility, according to Bloomberg news agency.

Within two years, the iPhone factory is anticipated to have more than 20 production lines and employ more than 50,000 people, sources told Bloomberg. The website should be up and running in 12 to 18 months.

The plant would support Apple’s aim to localize the supply chain in order to fortify its relationship with Tata, who currently owns a Karnataka iPhone manufacturing that it purchased from Wistron. The Karnataka facility’s iPhone manufacturing rate may be significantly surpassed by the upcoming Tamil Nadu unit once it begins operations.

Given that the iPhone assembly factory in Tamil Nadu is anticipated to begin operations by the end of 2024, increased local manufacture of the phones could result in lower prices for Apple handsets, hence intensifying competition between Samsung and Apple.

With more than 5,000 workers, Tata Electronics already has a sizable manufacturing facility in Hosur. The factory is in charge of producing the iPhones’ outer covers. According to reports, Tata Electronics has begun hiring for its Tamil Nadu facility in anticipation of a possible increase in iPhone manufacturing in India.

Tata’s iPhone manufacturing facility in Karnataka

Tata had purchased the Apple manufacturing facility in Karnataka from Wistron in October with the goal of advancing iPhone production throughout India and the South Asian region. The assembly factory, which is located in Bengaluru, cost an incredible USD 123 million to purchase for Tata.

With almost 10,000 workers, the production plant aims to supply iPhones valued at USD 1.4 billion, with incentives offered to the staff if this objective is met. Even when other businesses are pulling out of the market due to Apple’s low profit margins, Tata Electronics has always maintained a strong investing interest in the iPhone’s manufacturing process.
