Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), led by Mukesh Ambani, has firmly denied media reports suggesting that the Government of India has raised a $30 billion claim against the company and its global partner BP over alleged shortfalls in gas production from the KG-D6 block.
In a strongly worded statement, the company described the reports as contrary to facts and based on unverified sources.
Reliance said the claims circulating in sections of the media misrepresented the actual status of the matter and created unnecessary confusion.
Clarifying its position, Reliance stated that neither it nor BP faces any demand amounting to $30 billion.
The company explained that the government’s claim related to the KG-D6 block stands at approximately $247 million, a figure significantly lower than what was reported.
Reliance further noted that it has consistently disclosed this amount in its annual financial statements, maintaining full transparency in line with regulatory requirements.
Matter Under Judicial Review
The company added that the issue referenced in the media remains under judicial consideration.
Reliance expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved strictly in accordance with India’s legal framework.
Reaffirming its faith in the judicial system, the company said it expects the ongoing legal process to address the issue fairly and objectively.
Reliance also emphasised that it, along with its partner BP, has always adhered to all contractual and legal obligations related to gas production and operations.
The company objected strongly to what it termed a misinterpretation of facts in the media reports.
Publishing claims based on anonymous or unverified sources, the company said, was irresponsible and misleading, particularly when the matter involves complex contractual and legal aspects.
The clarification comes amid heightened public attention on energy production and regulatory compliance in India’s hydrocarbon sector.
