Reliance Industries on Thursday firmly denied reports suggesting it had purchased crude oil of Iranian origin, issuing a clear and detailed clarification in response to recent media claims.
In an official statement, the company said it ‘categorically rejects recent media reports’ that alleged it had sourced Iranian crude.
The clarification came after a report by Reuters claimed that Reliance had acquired 5 million barrels of Iranian oil under a temporary relaxation of United States sanctions, drawing significant attention from industry observers and policymakers.
Reliance emphasised that it complies fully with all applicable laws and international regulations governing energy trade. It reiterated that it maintains strict adherence to sanctions frameworks and procurement guidelines while sourcing crude for its refining operations.
The statement comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over global oil flows, particularly those involving Iranian crude, which continues to remain under US sanctions.
Any reports suggesting a shift in procurement patterns or a relaxation of restrictions tend to trigger strong reactions across global energy markets.
Analysts note that even unverified claims related to Iranian oil purchases can influence price movements and investor sentiment, given the fragile geopolitical environment.
Markets remain sensitive to developments involving supply chains, sanctions enforcement, and regional stability.
The denial underscores the broader sensitivity surrounding energy trade flows and highlights the cautious approach adopted by major corporations navigating complex regulatory landscapes. It also reflects the ongoing uncertainty in global oil markets amid evolving geopolitical dynamics and compliance requirements.
