The One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative, a government scheme designed to promote local crafts and products at railway stations across India, has witnessed significant growth. With 1,854 operational outlets now showcasing the rich diversity of India’s local products, the scheme continues to gain momentum nationwide.
Central Railway has made a notable contribution to this initiative, accounting for 157 of the 1,854 operational outlets. This figure highlights the railway’s commitment to supporting the OSOP scheme. Among these, the Bhusaval Division stands out, with 25 thriving outlets that are actively contributing to the local economy. Bhusaval Divisional Railway Manager Ity Pandey emphasized that women manage and run all 25 outlets, reflecting the initiative’s focus on female empowerment.

The implementation of OSOP at a nationwide level is in line with the government’s vision of turning railway stations into vibrant marketplaces that celebrate and support local craftsmanship. The stalls at these stations not only showcase products unique to different regions but also provide a platform for marginalized communities to earn an income. “These outlets are now being allotted for three months wherever demand exists, providing stability and growth opportunities for local entrepreneurs,” Pandey explaine.
The OSOP scheme has been instrumental in advancing the government’s “vocal for local” campaign, which encourages the promotion and consumption of indigenous products. The outlets are fostering a deep connection between passengers and India’s rich heritage, offering everything from Paithani sarees and purses to packed roasted products in Bhusaval and Jalgaon, as well as bamboo crafts in Akola.
Crucially, the initiative has empowered women across the Bhusaval Division. Pandey highlight that these outlets are primarily run by women from lower-income groups, providing them with a platform for economic independence. “Not only are these outlets profitable, but they also offer training and employment opportunities to other women in the community,” she added.
The Ministry of Railways has implemented several policy updates to strengthen the OSOP initiative. Initially, outlets allocate for a period of 15 days with a minimal registration fee. However, with increasing demand, the ministry has now extended the duration to three months. This change further provides local entrepreneurs with greater stability and long-term growth opportunities.
The OSOP initiative has thus far shown great promise in uplifting local economies, empowering women, and promoting indigenous products across India’s vast railway network. As it continues to expand, it offers a bright future for small entrepreneurs and a deeper connection between passengers and the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
