Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday directed BJP MPs from West Bengal to intensify public outreach on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s voters’ list. He asked the MPs to launch strong awareness campaigns and explain why the revision is necessary for ensuring a clean and accurate electoral roll.
PM Modi issued these instructions during a meeting in Delhi with all 12 BJP Lok Sabha MPs and two Rajya Sabha MPs from West Bengal.
The interaction lasted a considerable duration and covered organisational planning as well as the party’s electoral strategy for the state.
He advised the MPs not to speculate about how many names might be deleted from the final voters’ list after the revision.
Instead, PM Modi told them to focus on explaining the purpose of SIR. He reminded them that the key objective is to retain genuine voters and eliminate bogus entries that distort the democratic process.
A Lok Sabha MP present at the meeting said that the Prime Minister stressed the importance of shifting the public narrative toward cleansing the electoral roll, not guessing future numbers.
BJP’s West Bengal state president and Lok Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya confirmed that PM Modi interacted individually with each MP.
He said the Prime Minister already understands the ground realities in the state and does not require lengthy updates.
Bhattacharya added that PM Modi offered clear guidance on preparing for next year’s crucial assembly elections.
Prime Minister Modi also instructed MPs to strengthen booth-level organisation and maintain consistent contact with beneficiaries of Central government schemes.
He emphasised that MPs must reach out to the public through village meetings, direct interactions, and active use of social media.
According to party sources, PM Modi told MPs to highlight the Centre’s welfare measures, listen to citizen feedback, and build trust at the grassroots.
He asked them to focus on targeted outreach that links beneficiaries and local workers directly with the party’s development narrative.
The meeting also addressed the political landscape in West Bengal and the challenges the BJP faces ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
PM Modi underlined that the SIR exercise offers an opportunity for the party to strengthen its connection with voters and reinforce confidence in the electoral process.
With these directions, the BJP leadership in West Bengal now plans to expand its communication campaigns, increase field visits, and push for greater public understanding of the voter list revision underway since November 4.
