Over 125 top trade leaders from across India resolved on Friday to boycott all trade and commercial ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan, including travel and tourism. The decision came in response to both countries backing Pakistan, which supports terrorism.
The leaders also urged the Indian film industry to stop shooting in Turkey or Azerbaijan. They warned that films shot in these countries would face public and business boycotts. The resolution also advised corporate houses not to film product promotions in either country.
The call was made at a National Conference of Trade Leaders hosted by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in New Delhi. Representatives from 24 states attended the meet. The conference expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and resolved to stand against any foreign nation acting against India.
Trade Leaders Slam Turkey and Azerbaijan
The resolution followed recent public support shown by Turkey and Azerbaijan towards Pakistan. The Indian trading community called this stance a betrayal. They reminded both countries of India’s past diplomatic and humanitarian support.
CAIT Secretary General and MP Praveen Khandelwal said, “It is deeply unfortunate that Turkey and Azerbaijan, who once received India’s aid and support, now side with Pakistan — a country known for backing terrorism. Their actions hurt India’s sovereignty and insult the sentiments of 140 crore Indians.”
The conference criticised Turkey for its repeated anti-India remarks on global platforms. It condemned Azerbaijan for aligning with Turkey and backing Pakistan’s narrative. Trade leaders labelled their actions “ungrateful and hostile.”
CAIT National President BC Bhartia said the business community had lost trust in both countries. He declared that they no longer deserve trade or economic cooperation from India.
The trade leaders also praised the government’s decision to revoke the security clearance of Turkish firm Celebi. The firm handled ground services at nine major Indian airports. CAIT announced plans to start a nationwide campaign to raise awareness among traders, consumers, and travel professionals to join the boycott.
