Nifty, Sensex Post Second Straight Weekly Gain On Lower Crude, Strong Earnings

Nifty and Sensex gained for a second straight week as lower crude oil prices and strong Q1 FY27 earnings supported investor sentiment.

Sensex, Nifty End Week Lower As Global Concerns Weigh On Markets

Indian equity benchmarks recorded gains for the second consecutive week, supported by a sharp fall in crude oil prices and better-than-expected corporate results for the first quarter of FY27.

The Nifty rose 0.77 per cent during the week despite falling 0.27 per cent in the final session to close at 24,570.

The Sensex ended Friday 455 points, or 0.58 per cent, lower at 78,499 but gained 0.52 per cent over the week.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices. The Nifty Midcap 100 advanced 0.87 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed 2.73 per cent during the week.

Strong earnings and stock-specific developments continued to support small-cap shares.

PSU banks led sectoral gains as improving fundamentals attracted investors. Metal stocks benefited from resilient domestic demand and a stronger growth outlook, while automobile shares gained on expectations of healthy festive-season sales.

Markets began the week on a volatile note following the introduction of the new Futures and Options Closing Auction Session.

Trading conditions stabilised as participants adjusted to the revised framework.

The sharp correction in crude oil prices improved market sentiment by strengthening India’s economic outlook and easing concerns over inflation.

The Reserve Bank of India also reinforced confidence by maintaining its policy stance, raising its growth forecast modestly and lowering inflation projections.

The ongoing Q1 FY27 earnings season further supported the market, with corporate results broadly exceeding expectations and encouraging buying across several sectors.

Globally, weaker labour market indicators reduced expectations of an immediate interest rate increase by the US Federal Reserve.

US bond yields and the dollar declined, while safe-haven demand supported gold prices.

Investors will track US and Indian economic data for signals on interest rates, growth and inflation.
