Indian equity benchmarks closed higher on Wednesday, even as persistent selling in information technology shares restrained overall momentum.

Investors absorbed mixed global signals while domestic factors provided stability.

The BSE Sensex advanced 283 points, or 0.34 per cent, to settle at 83,734. The Nifty 50 gained 93 points, or 0.37 per cent, to close at 25,819.

Strength in banking, metals and fast-moving consumer goods countered the drag from IT counters.

Broader markets mirrored benchmark resilience. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.50 per cent. The NSE Smallcap 100 climbed 0.54 per cent.

The Nifty Next 50 outperformed with a 0.67 per cent gain.

All sectoral gauges traded in positive territory except Nifty IT, which declined 1.23 per cent.

Broader Market Resilience Continues

Nifty FMCG, metal and PSU bank indices led advances, rising 1.21 per cent, 1.33 per cent and 1.31 per cent respectively.

Market breadth on the Bombay Stock Exchange remained favourable. A total of 2,110 shares advanced against 1,916 declines, while 166 stocks closed unchanged.

As many as 94 counters touched fresh 52-week highs, whereas 82 slipped to yearly lows.

Analysts attributed resilience to sustained domestic institutional investor inflows.

They said these flows provided structural support and absorbed volatility amid uncertain global cues.

Sentiment remained cautiously optimistic, supported by confidence in domestic growth and improving corporate earnings visibility.

The rupee weakened marginally by ₹0.02 to 90.66 against the US dollar.

Intraday, the Sensex touched a low of 83,206 around 10:40 am before rebounding over 585 points to 83,749.

The Nifty recovered 183 points to 25,828 in afternoon trade, erasing early losses and marking a third successive session of gains.

Market strategists observed rotational activity rather than broad risk appetite.

Investors favoured defensive and value-oriented sectors over high-growth themes.

Bank Nifty displayed a structurally strong bullish pattern, maintaining higher highs and higher lows. The 61,400 level now serves as a critical near-term support zone.
