Indian benchmark indices ended slightly higher on Wednesday, with the Nifty rising 57.85 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 25,482.50, and the Sensex closing up 50.15 points, or 0.06 per cent, at 82,276.07.

Markets gave up most of their early gains, pressured by losses in heavyweight stocks such as Reliance Industries and State Bank of India.

Buying in IT and metal stocks, however, helped the indices limit losses and sustain a positive close.

HCL Tech led the rally with a 2.8% gain, supported by Tata Steel, TCS, Indigo, Sun Pharma, and Mahindra & Mahindra.

The Nifty Metal index topped sectoral gains, followed by Nifty Pharma and Nifty IT, while the Nifty PSU Bank index fell the most.

Broader markets outperformed, with the Nifty MidCap 100 up 0.58% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 rising 0.96%.

Reliance Industries shares dropped 2.23%, weighing on the Sensex, while SBI, Bharti Airtel, ITC, HDFC Bank, and Bajaj Finance also declined amid profit booking.

Analysts noted that Nifty’s 25,400 level provided immediate support, while 25,600–25,650 remains a key resistance zone.

A break below 25,300 could accelerate selling toward 25,250–25,150, whereas a sustained move above 25,650 may extend gains to 25,800–26,000.

Despite selling pressure in heavyweights, buying in IT and metal stocks kept markets in the green.

Analysts highlighted that sectoral strength helped offset cautious investor sentiment and ensured modest gains by the close.
