Alessandro Paluzzi, a renowned developer recognized for discovering unreleased features, recently surprised the tech community with an intriguing revelation. He revealed that Meta’s highly anticipated Twitter-like app, Threads, made an appearance on the Google Play Store. As per the reports from Verge providing insights into this intriguing occurrence, the news shared by Paluzzi via Twitter, generated significant excitement among tech enthusiasts. However, to everyone’s surprise, the app mysteriously vanished from the store shortly after its brief appearance, leaving the netizens curious about its future.
Along with his tweet, Paluzzi included screenshots that offered a glimpse into different aspects of the app’s user interface. These images unveiled a login screen, where users could sign in using their Instagram accounts. Another screen displayed a list of followed accounts, indicating that Threads allows users to curate their own network by selecting who they want to follow from their Instagram connections. Additionally, the screenshots hinted at the presence of familiar blue checkmarks, similar to those on Instagram, to signify verified accounts within the upcoming application.
According to reports, Meta has been working on an app code-named “Project 92” since January. This app is intended to offer a reliable content distribution platform for creators and public figures, as stated by Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox.
Cox further mentioned that Threads is Meta’s response to Twitter, setting the stage for an anticipated clash between Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and the owner of Twitter, Elon Musk. Speaking of their much-awaited showdown, amidst the unforeseen appearance and subsequent disappearance of Threads, Musk dropped a Tweet for Zuckerberg, that read, “up for a cage match.” Accepting the challenge, Zuckerberg re-shared the tweet on his Instagram stories articulating, “Send me the location.”
Speaking of, the exchange of banter between the two tech entrepreneurs did not conclude there as Musk subsequently revealed that the face-off would be held in Las Vegas.
