Maruti Suzuki India announced on Thursday that it transported a record 5.18 lakh vehicles via India Railways in the financial year 2024-25, marking its highest-ever annual dispatch by rail.
According to the company’s official statement, its cumulative railway vehicle dispatches have now reached 24 lakh since FY 2014-15.
The automobile manufacturer currently serves over 600 cities across India through more than 20 railway hubs.
Additionally, Maruti Suzuki utilises rail transport to move vehicles to export ports at Mundra and Pipavav, further highlighting its reliance on the railway network for efficient logistics.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, emphasised the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, both in its products and operations.
“Reducing carbon emissions is a top priority for us,” he said, as reported by PTI.

Since becoming the first Indian company licensed to operate automobile freight trains in 2013, Maruti Suzuki has significantly expanded its rail transport operations.
Takeuchi added, “Since then, we have dispatched nearly 24 lakh vehicles through rail mode. By FY 2030-31, we plan to increase the share of vehicle dispatches through railways to 35 per cent.”
Currently, Maruti Suzuki operates over 40 flexi deck rakes, each capable of transporting approximately 300 vehicles per journey.
This railway transport initiative has helped the company avoid over 1.8 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions and conserve more than 63 million litres of fuel, underscoring its contribution to environmental sustainability.
Maruti Suzuki’s continued investment in rail logistics demonstrates its focus on sustainable growth and efficient vehicle distribution, aligning with its broader goals for carbon reduction and operational excellence.
