Indian stock markets recorded weekly gains despite volatility linked to geopolitical developments and renewed concerns over tensions in West Asia.
The Nifty rose 0.76 per cent during the week, although it slipped 0.60 per cent on the final trading session to settle at 24,180. The Sensex also ended Friday lower by 516 points, or 0.66 per cent, closing at 77,328.
The index, however, still posted a weekly gain of 0.54 per cent.
Analysts said improving domestic macroeconomic indicators helped investor sentiment recover after a cautious start to the week.
Softer crude oil prices, strengthening of the rupee, and easing 10-year bond yields supported market confidence even as geopolitical uncertainty persisted.
According to market experts, encouraging state election results and fourth-quarter earnings that were stronger than expected also boosted sentiment across sectors.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices during the week. The Nifty Midcap100 climbed 3.49 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap100 advanced 4.05 per cent. Buying interest remained strong in automobile, defence, real estate, and pharmaceutical stocks.
Markets, however, witnessed selling pressure on the final trading day. The United States and Iran exchanged fire, raising fresh doubts over the prospects of a near-term peace agreement. The developments also increased concerns about global energy supplies.
Iran accused the US of violating a ceasefire arrangement, while US President Donald Trump maintained that the ceasefire was still in place. Iran later stated that the situation had normalised.
In commodity markets, Brent crude dropped more than 3 per cent and traded below $95 a barrel. Domestic crude futures also fell below Rs 9,000, reversing much of the previous session’s sharp rise.
Analysts said the 24,250–24,300 range remains an immediate resistance zone for Nifty, while 24,100–24,000 is likely to act as key support.
Investors are also closely tracking inflation data from India and the United States for signals on future interest-rate expectations.
