Markets End Week Higher As Global Cues And Lower Oil Prices Lift Sentiment

Indian equities wrapped up the week with solid gains, supported by improving global signals and easing energy prices, which helped sustain investor confidence.

The benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, both advanced on Friday. The Sensex climbed over 500 points to settle above 78,400, while the Nifty moved past the 24,300 mark, reflecting steady buying activity across the market.

Analysts attributed the upward move to a combination of factors, including positive developments in geopolitical discussions involving the United States and Iran, a firmer rupee, and a decline in crude oil prices. Together, these elements helped improve overall risk appetite.

Sector-wise, consumer goods, metals, and oil and gas stocks saw notable traction during the week. In contrast, information technology shares showed relatively muted performance compared to other segments.

The rally extended beyond the frontline indices. Broader markets outpaced benchmarks, with mid-cap and small-cap stocks posting stronger percentage gains, indicating wider participation from investors.

Market participants observed a more stable trend compared to recent volatility.

Price movements suggested that declines were being used as buying opportunities, signalling a gradual return of confidence.

Experts, however, noted that indices are yet to decisively break past higher resistance levels, indicating that the market is still in a phase of transition.

Foreign institutional investors showed tentative signs of returning, turning net buyers in the latter part of the week after a period of sustained selling. Domestic institutional investors booked profits in recent sessions, leading to some outflows.

Despite short-term shifts in investment patterns, domestic funds continue to provide underlying support to the market.

Analysts believe that while downside risks appear limited for now, further gains will depend on global developments and sustained investor participation.
