On Tuesday, Indian equity benchmarks extended their upward momentum, closing in positive territory for the third consecutive session as sentiment improved on expectations of a possible extension of the US-Iran ceasefire.

The Nifty 50 ended at 24,576.60, gaining 211.75 points or 0.87 per cent, while the BSE Sensex close stood at 79,273.33, up 753.03 points or 0.96 per cent.

Gains were supported by buying in select heavyweight stocks, with Nestle India, Trent and Hindustan Unilever emerging among the top contributors.

Market participants noted that the 24,600 level on the Nifty is acting as a near-term resistance.

Analysts said a sustained move above this mark could push the index towards 24,850 and eventually the 25,000 level. On the downside, the 24,350–24,400 band is now seen as immediate support.

Broader markets also participated in the rally. The Nifty MidCap index closed higher by 0.49 per cent. The Nifty SmallCap index advanced 0.88 per cent, reflecting continued investor interest beyond large-cap stocks.

Sectorally, the Nifty FMCG and Nifty Realty indices outperformed, driven by strong buying demand. In contrast, the Nifty Pharma index lagged behind and ended as the weakest segment of the session.

Investor confidence was aided by developments on the geopolitical front, with indications that delegations from the United States and Iran, including JD Vance, may participate in upcoming talks aimed at extending the ceasefire.

Caution, however, persists. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf reiterated that Tehran will not negotiate under pressure. Donald Trump warned that failure to reach an agreement could trigger renewed military action.

Analysts said the broader trend remains constructive. They cited stable macroeconomic indicators, softer crude prices and expectations of strong quarterly earnings.

Analysts further added that intermittent volatility cannot be ruled out
