The administration of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has provided Rs 177.80 crore as relief to farmers in Maharashtra who experienced unseasonal rainfall in March and suffered crop losses. Unseasonal rains in the state’s western Vidarbha area over the past two days has caused agricultural damage to nearly 7,400 hectares of land, according to deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday.
Intermittent showers impacted the crops in Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Washim, and Buldana, five districts. In review sessions held in the Amravati area, Fadnavis said that 7,596 farmers had been harmed by the unusually heavy rains.
The latest rainfall did not reach the prior criterion of 65mm, hence the state government has opted to give compensation for crop loss under new rules. Shinde had previously instructed staff to handle the damage assessment claims and distribute financial aid. After verification, Rs 177.80 crore has been distributed to the Maharashtra districts that were impacted.
A total of Rs 84.75 crore has been given to the Aurangabad revenue divisional commissioner, followed by Rs 63.09 crore for Nashik, Rs 24.57 crore for Amaravati, and Rs 5.37 crore for Pune.
On Monday, Fadnavis noted that after the evaluation of crop damage is finished, compensation will be given to more than 7,000 farmers in the Amravati division.
Further support from the Maharashtra government:
Also, he pledged financial support for the relatives of the seven persons who perished on Sunday night in Paras village in the Akola area after a tree fell on a tin shed. The government will pay for all necessary medical care for the injured.
In accordance with the 2023–24 budget announcement, the state government has formed a committee to investigate the establishment of a Marathi language university in Ridhpur (Amravati). The government is thinking about using available building space to commence the project, which will take place over the course of the following two years.
Also, as part of the PM MITRA programme, the state government purchased 220 hectares of land in Amravati for a giant textile park. After signing an MoU with the Central government, the remaining land will be acquired in the following 15 days, at which point work will start on building the foundational amenities.
