The Adani Group and ISKCON have come together to serve Maha Prasad to over 1 lakh devotees daily at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela.
What makes this initiative remarkable is its high efficiency and minimal food wastage, which remains below 2% despite serving massive crowds.
Strategic Planning To Prevent Food Wastage
The preparation for Maha Prasad begins at 2 AM every day. Around 500 quintals of vegetables are purchased daily, with advance planning determining the menu.
A dedicated four-member team tracks food consumption hourly to adjust quantities and prevent excess food preparation.
Tracking System Ensures Efficient Distribution
Although ISKCON’s food distribution team does not use high-tech tracking apps like Zomato or Swiggy, they have a manual tracking system in place.
- Real-time monitoring of food supply and demand helps regulate distribution.
- Remaining food is collected and redistributed by 6-7 PM to avoid wastage.
- In cases of traffic congestion, volunteers distribute leftover food to stranded travelers and pedestrians.
Accurate Consumption Estimation
- When seated, devotees consume approximately 750 grams of food per person.
- When standing or walking, the consumption reduces to 350-400 grams per person.
- Such data allows organizers to adjust portions accordingly and minimize waste.
Adani & ISKCON’s Commitment To Zero Waste
- The ultimate goal is to ensure that no grain of food is wasted.
- A dedicated team verifies food quality before redistribution.
Any surplus food is quickly redirected to other distribution points or served to pilgrims on the move.
Beyond Food Distribution: Other Social Initiatives
Apart from Maha Prasad distribution, the Adani Group is also collaborating with Geeta Press to distribute 1 crore Aarti collections
The Adani-ISKCON Maha Prasad initiative at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh sets a global benchmark in food distribution efficiency, proving that with meticulous planning, tracking, and commitment, large-scale food distribution can be both effective and sustainable.
