In a boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Lenovo has outlined plans to achieve 100% local production of its personal computers (PCs), including AI-powered models, within the next three years.
Marking 20 years of operations in India, Lenovo India Managing Director Shailendra Katiyal shared that currently, 30% of the company’s PC sales in India come from locally manufactured units.
He stated, “This figure is expected to reach 50 percent next year and eventually 100 percent within three years.”
Katiyal also announced that Lenovo’s first AI-powered servers will begin rolling out from its India facility on April.
He made these remarks at ‘Lenovo TechWorld India 2025’ in Mumbai.
The company has been expanding its manufacturing presence in India, launching a production facility in Puducherry last September.
This unit will likely produce around 50,000 enterprise AI servers and 2,400 high-end graphics processing units (GPUs) annually.
Further strengthening its footprint, Lenovo is also ramping up research and development (R&D) in the country, with plans for a new R&D center in Bengaluru.
Mathew Zielinski, President of Lenovo’s International Markets, emphasized India’s growing significance for the company.
“Our manufacturing footprint in India, that’s not only building for India, but is also establishing India as a huge exporter,” Zielinski asserted.
He also noted that in 2024, Lenovo manufactured and shipped products worth Rs 18,000 crore from India, both for local and international markets.
As AI adoption accelerates, Lenovo’s India revenue has reached $2.5 billion for the year-to-date period.
The company is also making strides in smartphone exports, with all Motorola phone production now based in India and supplied to global markets.
