India’s ambitions to emerge as a global leader in artificial intelligence will depend heavily on large-scale infrastructure and energy capacity, according to Jeet Adani, who outlined a massive investment plan on Tuesday.
Speaking at the foundation event for a major AI-focused data centre project, Jeet Adani said the Adani Group has committed around $100 billion to develop a comprehensive ecosystem that supports AI growth across the country. This includes investments in power generation, transmission networks, digital connectivity, and data centre infrastructure.
Jeet Adani emphasised that energy will play a central role in shaping the future of AI. He noted that affordable and reliable electricity is key to making advanced technologies widely accessible.
According to him, lowering computing costs will eventually make AI-driven intelligence more affordable, encouraging broader adoption and faster innovation.
As part of this push, Google Cloud will likely invest approximately $15 billion in the development of a large AI data centre campus in India. The project is one of the biggest foreign investments in the country and is to become the largest such facility outside the United States.
The upcoming campus is being developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX. It will use advanced infrastructure similar to that powering global platforms such as Google Search, Google Workspace, and YouTube.
Jeet Adani highlighted that India’s growing infrastructure could position it as a hub for global digital intelligence. He added that expanding access to AI tools will be critical.
Additionally, Jeet Adani said the technology’s true impact depends on how widely people can use it.
The project will significantly boost capacity in the sector.
At present, India has roughly 1.3 GW of data centre capacity. The planned facility in Visakhapatnam alone could account for nearly 1 GW, signalling a major leap in scale.
Drawing a parallel with Bengaluru, which played a central role in India’s IT boom, Jeet Adani said Visakhapatnam is likely to become a key centre for the country’s AI-driven growth. He concluded that India’s strengths could help it play a defining role in the next phase of global technological development.
Jeet Adani highlighted execution capability and trust. He also pointed to energy resources as a key advantage.
