India’s Travel Sector Booms With Smart Tech, Sustainability, And New Job Opportunities

India’s travel and hospitality sector is thriving, driven by the rise of smart tourism technologies, a revival of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities, and a strong focus on sustainable tourism.

These factors are reshaping the industry, generating new job opportunities, and increasing demand for skilled professionals in areas like sustainability coordination, smart travel experience design, and contactless technology deployment.

In 2024, the travel and tourism industry contributed 9% to India’s GDP, amounting to over USD 11 trillion. While Indian travelers are not yet the most frequent globally, they are becoming key contributors to the revival of international tourism. This has led to a growing need for personalized and innovative travel services.

New locations like Pune (18%), Visakhapatnam (15%), and Kochi (13%) are also gaining attention. As the demand for skilled professionals rises, companies are focusing on filling sales roles, with 76% of businesses seeking sales talent. Marketing (46%), office service (35%), and information and communication technology (18%) positions are also in high demand. Engineering and blue-collar jobs are similarly sought after due to technological advancements in the sector.

Balasubramanian A, senior VP at TeamLease Services, noted, “The hiring intent of 66% of companies in the travel and hospitality sector highlights the industry’s evolution. Businesses are preparing to meet the needs of today’s eco-conscious, experience-driven travelers.”
