India’s Smartphone Exports Cross ₹2 Lakh Crore Mark In FY25; Driven By PLI Scheme

India’s smartphone exports touched a new milestone in FY25, crossing ₹2 lakh crore for the first time, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday.

Vaishnaw shared the update on the social media platform X, calling it another record-breaking moment under the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

Smartphone exports from India grew by 54 percent over the last financial year.

The rise reflects the deeper integration of global value chains into the Indian economy.

“The surge in exports is generating large-scale employment. Indian MSMEs are joining global supply networks. The local electronics manufacturing ecosystem is also expanding rapidly,” Vaishnaw posted on X.

Earlier industry data showed smartphone exports from India had crossed ₹1.75 lakh crore in just 11 months (April to February) of FY25. This performance had already outpaced the previous year.

Analysts credit the growth to the PLI scheme. It has boosted exports while reducing imports.

Today, 99 percent of smartphones used in India are made domestically.

The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) estimated that FY25 exports to hit $20 billion (around ₹1.68 lakh crore).

The actual figure has surpassed that mark.

Apple remains the largest contributor. Its iPhone supply chain made up nearly 70 percent of total exports.

The Foxconn plant in Tamil Nadu alone accounted for 50 percent of shipments. It recorded a 40 percent year-on-year jump.

Tata Electronics also played a major role. Its Wistron facility in Karnataka and 60 percent stake in Pegatron’s Tamil Nadu unit made it a key iPhone producer.

Reports suggest Apple may boost iPhone exports to the US from India.

The move aims to sidestep tariffs on Chinese goods and reduce import costs.
