India’s engineering goods exports to the US grew 18% year-on-year in January 2025, reaching $1.62 billion, according to the Engineering Exports Promotion Council (EEPC). Overall engineering exports increased at a slower 7.44% rate during the month. The US remained India’s top export destination, followed by the UAE.
India’s engineering exports to the US rose 9% year-on-year to $15.6 billion in the April-January period of FY25. Exports to the UAE surged 56% in January to $610 million and recorded 45% cumulative growth to nearly $7 billion.
Several markets, including Germany, Mexico, Turkey, South Africa, France, Japan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, posted positive growth in January. However, exports to the UK, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, China, Italy, and Spain declined.
EEPC India Chairman Pankaj Chadha highlighted that despite global turmoil, conflicts, and rising protectionism, engineering exports have sustained growth. He noted that over 3,000 trade restrictions were implemented globally in 2024, according to the Global Trade Outlook 2025 by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
India’s engineering exports have grown for nine consecutive months. However, the 7.44% growth rate in January was slightly lower than 8.32% in December 2024. The rise was mainly due to higher exports of aircraft, electric machinery, automobiles, industrial machinery, iron and steel products, and medical instruments. Meanwhile, shipbuilding and raw iron and steel exports fell.
Cumulatively, engineering goods exports in April-January FY25 reached $96.75 billion, registering a 10% year-on-year increase from $88.10 billion in the previous year.
