India’s automobile exports surged by 19% in the financial year 2024–25, crossing 5.3 million units, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Strong demand for passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles in overseas markets fueled the growth.
Automakers exported a total of 5,363,089 vehicles in FY 2024–25, up from 4,500,494 units in the previous fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.
The increase reflects rising global confidence in Indian manufacturing and growing traction for ‘Made in India’ vehicles across key international markets.
Passenger vehicle shipments rose by 15% to 770,364 units from 672,105 units in FY 2023–24.
SIAM attributed the growth to the global popularity of Indian-manufactured models and noted that the segment delivered its best-ever performance last year.
Utility vehicles led the category with a sharp 54% rise in exports, reaching 362,160 units compared to 234,720 units the previous year.
SIAM also highlighted that improving manufacturing quality has enabled Indian automakers to begin exports to developed markets.
Two-wheeler exports grew by 21%, reaching 4,198,403 units in FY 2024–25, up from 3,458,416 units in the prior fiscal.
New model introductions and expansion into fresh markets helped drive this growth.
SIAM also credited the economic recovery in African countries and consistent demand from Latin America for supporting the surge in two-wheeler shipments.
Three-wheeler exports increased marginally by 2%, with 310,000 units shipped in FY 2024–25.
Commercial vehicle exports recorded a more robust growth of 23%, rising to 80,986 units from 65,818 units in FY 2023–24.
SIAM stated that demand from key regions such as Africa and neighbouring countries remains strong.
“On the exports front, good recovery is seen across all segments, particularly passenger vehicles and two-wheelers, reflecting improved global demand and India’s growing competitiveness,” said SIAM President Shailesh Chandra.
