US Vice President JD Vance arrived at Palam airport in New Delhi on Monday morning, marking the beginning of his first official visit to India.
He received a ceremonial Guard of Honour upon arrival, accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, their children, and senior US administration officials.
Vice President Vance and his family were warmly welcomed at the airport by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Hoardings featuring Vice President Vance were displayed near Palam airport ahead of his arrival, highlighting the significance of his visit.
During his four-day visit, which runs from April 21 to 24, Vice President Vance is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Their formal meeting is set for 6:30 pm at the Prime Minister’s official residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening economic, trade, and defence cooperation between the two nations.
In a media briefing last Thursday, Jaiswal noted the depth of the India-US strategic relationship, saying, “We have a comprehensive strategic global partnership. Naturally, we will discuss all relevant issues during the visit.”
He added that the visit is expected to provide a significant boost to India-US bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, before arriving in India, Vice President Vance completed a three-day official visit to Italy.
During his stay, he held expanded bilateral meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
On Saturday, he met with Church officials, including Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Vance concluded his visit to Italy on Easter Sunday with a meeting with Pope Francis.
