The Indian construction equipment industry has achieved a significant milestone, driven by robust government spending on infrastructure projects. The sector has reached its highest overall volumes in three years, coupled with its strongest export performance during the April-December 2024 period.
According to the latest data from the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (ICEMA), the industry recorded 98,970 units in sales during the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
This marks a 5% increase from 94,685 units sold in the same period in 2023 and a 34% rise compared to 73,795 units sold in 2022. The surge in domestic sales highlights the industry’s recovery and growth amid increased demand for construction machinery.
Exports have also experienced a remarkable rise. The industry achieved its highest export figures in three years, with 9,733 units shipped overseas, up from 9,181 units in 2023 and 5,700 units in 2022.
This increase signifies a growing presence of Indian construction equipment in international markets, further underscoring the sector’s strength.

The third quarter of fiscal year 2025 (Q3FY25) marked another record-breaking period. The industry saw 35,835 units in domestic sales, surpassing 33,135 units in Q3FY24 and 25,565 units in Q3FY23.
Exports for the quarter also reached a new high of 3,547 units, compared to 3,452 units in Q3FY24 and 2,252 units in Q3FY23. This quarterly growth further solidifies the industry’s upward trajectory.
In terms of sequential growth, Q3FY25 also recorded the highest figures for the year. In comparison, Q2FY25 had 27,382 units in domestic sales and 3,304 units in exports, while Q1FY25 had 26,020 units in domestic sales and 2,882 units in exports. These figures indicate a steady growth pattern throughout the fiscal year.
ICEMA attributes the industry’s growth to several key factors. The ongoing focus on infrastructure development by the government, particularly after the elections, has provided a significant boost.
Additionally, the conclusion of the monsoon season, pre-buying activity ahead of the implementation of the CEV V emission standards in January 2025, and the introduction of new machinery variants have all contributed to the industry’s positive performance.
Looking ahead, there is strong optimism for continued growth. V Vivekanand, President of ICEMA and Managing Director of Caterpillar India, expressed confidence, stating, “With the continued focus on infrastructure spending in the recent budget, there is good optimism for demand to further strengthen in the coming quarters.”
The outlook for the construction equipment industry remains promising as infrastructure spending continues to drive demand, setting the stage for sustained growth in the upcoming months.
