The Spices Board of India has unveiled a new initiative titled “Sustainability in Spice Sector through Progressive, Innovative and Collaborative Interventions for Export Development (SPICED)” to promote sustainable, value-added spice exports during the financial year 2025–26.
SPICED Scheme Focuses On Productivity & Sustainability
The SPICED scheme aims to enhance the productivity of small and large cardamom, improve post-harvest quality, and promote the production of organic and GI-tagged spices.
It also focuses on helping stakeholders meet global food safety and phytosanitary standards while strengthening the spice export value chain.
The Spices Board will offer financial support under various components of the scheme.
Spice exporters can apply for export development and promotion incentives from May 26 to June 30, 2025, while farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) can apply under development categories until September 30, 2025.
SPICED Supports Farming And Infrastructure
The scheme supports key farming activities such as cardamom replanting, rejuvenation of plantations, development of water resources, installation of micro-irrigation systems, and promotion of organic farming.
It also encourages the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
Additionally, the scheme will fund the installation of improved post-harvest infrastructure, including modern dryers, slicers, dehullers, and grading machines.
Farmers and FPOs can also receive support for procuring spice polishers, turmeric boilers, mint distillation units, and threshing machines.
Export Promotion And Market Access
To boost exports, SPICED provides financial aid for participation in international trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, and other promotional events.
The scheme places special emphasis on first-time exporters and small businesses, offering them opportunities to showcase Indian spices in global markets.
