India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, announced the launch of eight new Indian Consular Application Centres across the United States.
The expansion aims to improve access to consular services for the over 5.4 million-strong Indian diaspora in the country.
In a video message shared by the Embassy of India in Washington, DC, Ambassador Kwatra stated, “We are expanding our consular services in the USA beginning August 1, 2025. This major expansion will significantly improve the delivery and accessibility of consular services for our community.”
New Centres in Key US Cities
The eight new Indian Consular Application Centres will open in the following cities:
- Boston
- Columbus
- Dallas
- Detroit
- Addison
- Orlando
- Raleigh
- San Jose
Ambassador Kwatra also confirmed plans to launch another centre in Los Angeles soon.
Starting August 1, 2025, all Indian Consular Application Centres will operate on Saturdays, increasing the availability of services for working professionals and families.
The Ambassador highlighted that miscellaneous consular services will now be available through these centres, enhancing convenience for applicants. However, he noted that some key services will continue to be handled at the embassy itself.
Strengthening People-to-People Ties
“We believe people-to-people ties form the foundation of the India-US partnership,” Ambassador Kwatra emphasised.
He added that the opening of two new consulates, in Boston and Los Angeles, as previously announced by the Prime Minister, would further deepen bilateral relations and community engagement in those regions.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 5.4 million people of Indian origin live in the United States, making them the third-largest Asian ethnic group in the country.
Their continued contributions have been crucial in strengthening India-US relations across sectors.
With this expansion, India aims to reinforce its diplomatic outreach and ensure timely, accessible, and people-centric service delivery for the diaspora.
