Hyundai Creta Celebrates 10 Years With 1.2 Million Sales Milestone In India

Hyundai Motor India has celebrated a major milestone as its best-selling mid-size SUV, the Creta, completes ten years in the Indian market.

Since its launch in July 2015, the Creta has crossed cumulative domestic sales of 1.2 million units, firmly establishing itself as one of the most successful SUVs in the country.

The Creta has remained a market leader in its category every calendar year since launch.

It currently holds over 31% market share in the mid-size SUV segment. Notably, it emerged as India’s best-selling SUV in the first half of 2025, leading overall vehicle sales in three of those six months, a testament to its strong consumer appeal.

Sales have more than doubled over the last decade, rising from 92,926 units in 2016 to 1,86,919 units in 2024.

Interestingly, variants equipped with a sunroof now account for approximately 70% of total Creta sales, reflecting evolving preferences among Indian car buyers.

Attracting First-Time Buyers

Another remarkable trend has been the growing share of first-time car buyers opting for the Creta. Their proportion has risen from 12% in 2020 to 29% in 2024, underlining the SUV’s strong appeal across age groups and experience levels.

The model’s reputation for reliability, design, and features continues to attract a wide range of customers.

Hyundai offers the Creta in a variety of petrol, diesel, turbo-petrol, and electric powertrains, paired with both manual and automatic transmissions.

The brand also exports the made-in-India SUV to 13 international markets, with more than 2.87 lakh units shipped abroad so far.

Over the years, Hyundai has introduced special editions such as the Knight and Adventure variants and incorporated numerous feature upgrades.

It has also repositioned the Creta, from being promoted as the ‘Perfect SUV’ in 2015 to ‘The Undisputed Ultimate SUV’ in 2024, aligning with its evolution in both design and functionality.

To mark the tenth anniversary, Hyundai has announced a series of celebratory initiatives. These include a user-generated content campaign titled ‘Creta X Memories’ and a 100-car legacy drive set to begin on 26 July from the company’s headquarters in Gurugram.

These events aim to engage existing Creta owners and highlight the SUV’s journey over the last decade.

With its continued success and expanding feature set, the Hyundai Creta remains a key pillar in the brand’s Indian portfolio.

As Hyundai gears up for the next chapter, the SUV is well-positioned to retain its leadership in a fiercely competitive market.
