Half Of India Now Holds ABHA IDs Under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

Over 76 crore Indians now have ABHA IDs under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, with Odisha leading the way.

Half Of India Gets ABHA IDs Under Ayushman Bharat Mission

Over 76 crore Indians now have an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, marking a major step in the Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

The initiative aims to create a national digital health ecosystem by digitizing health records, facilities, and professionals across India.

According to government data, one in two Indians now have their ABHA ID, a unique 14-digit number that links their entire medical history and consultation details.

Odisha has taken the lead in creating ABHA IDs relative to its population, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Himanshu Burad, Officer on Special Duty to Joint Secretary & Mission Director (ABDM) at the National Health Authority (NHA), stated that the NHA has linked more than 51 crore health records to ABHA, and the number will continue to grow as more people register.

Security& Benefits Of ABHA

The ABHA card serves as a digital health record that eliminates the need to carry physical health records to hospitals.

Burad compared ABHA to a bank account, where health information is securely stored and can only be accessed with the individual’s consent.

This system allows people to manage their health history and take control of their well-being, similar to managing finances through a bank account.

The initiative is gaining traction with multiple platforms supporting ID creation, including the Union government’s Co-Win portal, Ayushman Bharat insurance scheme, health ministry’s non-communicable disease program, and personal healthcare apps like Eka Care.

A major advancement in the mission is the ‘scan & share’ feature, which allows patients to scan a QR code at the OPD registration counter to instantly share their ABHA profile for registration.

Government data shows that this feature has generated more than 9 crore tokens, saving patients approximately 90 crore minutes.

This feature is now available in over 19,000 hospitals across 640 districts, further streamlining the healthcare process.

Growth & Future Of The Initiative

Since the feature’s launch in 2022, AIIMS hospitals in New Delhi, Bhopal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Uttar Pradesh) have generated the majority of tokens.

The NHA continues to expand the reach of ABDM, with 16,765 hospitals and 17,229 healthcare facilities registered.

As more people adopt digital health records, the mission aims to strengthen India’s healthcare system by making health data accessible, secure, and efficient.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is making significant strides in transforming India’s healthcare landscape by offering a secure, digital, and accessible way for citizens to manage their health records.

With 76 crore ABHA IDs issued and more records linked every day, the mission is on track to revolutionize the healthcare system for millions of Indians.
