FM Sitharaman Receives ₹5,304 Crore Dividend From Three PSBs For FY25

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman received ₹5,304 crore in dividends from three PSBs for FY 2024–25 at her North Block office on Tuesday.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday received ₹5,304 crore in dividends from three public sector banks (PSBs) for FY 2024–25. She accepted the cheques at her North Block office in New Delhi.

Punjab National Bank MD Ashok Chandra handed over ₹2,335 crore. Bank of India MD Rajneesh Karnatak gave ₹1,353 crore. Indian Bank MD Binod Kumar presented ₹1,616 crore.

Last month, the State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda paid ₹8,076.84 crore and ₹2,762 crore in dividends.

Public sector enterprises posted strong profits in the January–March quarter. SBI earned ₹18,643 crore, pushing its full-year profit to ₹70,901 crore. LIC reported ₹19,013 crore in Q4, with a yearly profit of ₹48,151 crore.

Coal India made ₹9,604 crore in Q4 profit. IOC earned ₹7,265 crore, while ONGC posted ₹6,448 crore. In power, NTPC recorded ₹7,897 crore. PFC reported ₹8,358 crore. Power Grid earned ₹4,143 crore.

These public sector enterprises boosted government revenue through higher dividends and corporate taxes. Their large capex plans continue to drive growth and jobs.

The Centre met its fiscal deficit target of 4.8% of GDP for FY 2024–25. According to CGA data, the government collected ₹30.36 lakh crore in revenue—98.3% of the revised estimate. PSU earnings formed a key part of non-tax revenue.

The robust performance of PSUs has significantly strengthened the government’s fiscal position, with total dividends from key banks and enterprises crossing ₹16,000 crore so far in FY 2024–25.

Their strong profitability and steady dividend payouts continue to play a crucial role in supporting public finances and funding infrastructure-led growth.
