EY India’s latest report, ‘How much productivity can GenAI unlock in India? The AIdea of India: 2025’, forecasts substantial economic gains through AI adoption by 2030.
The report predicts that AI could impact 38 million jobs, leading to a 2.61% productivity increase in the organized sector, with the potential for a 5.43% boost if Generative AI (GenAI) is widely adopted in the unorganized sector.
The study, surveying over 125 C-suite executives, highlights a critical skills gap that India must address to harness AI’s full potential.
The report however emphasizes GenAI’s transformative capabilities across job functions, noting that it could automate 24% of tasks and enhance 42% of tasks through AI augmentation.
This would save knowledge workers 8-10 hours per week. While the services sector stands to benefit most from these productivity gains, manufacturing and construction sectors will likely see improvements.
Talent acquisition and development are critical to successful AI adoption, the report suggests.
Only 3% of Indian enterprises have the necessary in-house talent, with 97% of executives identifying talent shortages as a major barrier.
