Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on 16 March visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is nearing completion and will likely be operational soon.
Taking to X, Gautam Adani posted, “A glimpse into India’s aviation future! Visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport site today—a world-class airport taking shape. Set for inauguration this June, it will redefine connectivity & growth. A true gift to India! Kudos to the Adani Airports team & partners for making this vision a reality.”
The Adani Group had earlier indicated that the airport is on track for an official launch in the first half of 2025.
The project achieved a major milestone in December 2024 when its first commercial flight validation test was successfully conducted.
Designed as a greenfield airport, the Navi Mumbai facility will have two parallel runways, allowing simultaneous takeoffs and landings.
The project is being developed in phases, with an ultimate capacity to handle over 90 million passengers annually.
In the first phase, it will accommodate 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and manage 800,000 tons of cargo.
A key feature of the airport will be its 3,700-meter runway, designed to support large commercial aircraft.
Adani Airport Holdings Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, was established in 2019.
The conglomerate made its entry into the aviation sector by securing contracts for the operation, management, and development of six major airports – Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram. It also manages Mumbai’s existing airport.
According to the Adani Group, the company entered the civil aviation sector with the goal of revolutionizing India’s airport infrastructure.
The group now accounts for 25 percent of India’s passenger footfall and 33 percent of the country’s air cargo traffic.
