Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani will inaugurate the Sharadchandra Pawar Centre for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence tomorrow, December 28, in Baramati, sharing the stage with senior Nationalist Congress Party leaders Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar in an event that blends technology, education and high-voltage political symbolism.
The inauguration carries significance well beyond an academic milestone. It unfolds at a politically sensitive moment, as both factions of the NCP continue discussions over a possible alliance ahead of the upcoming civic elections in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The joint presence of Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar on one platform, alongside one of India’s most influential industrialists, has already triggered intense scrutiny across Maharashtra’s political landscape.
Vidya Pratishthan, the Baramati-based educational trust, has established the AI Centre. The Pawar family has been closely associated with this trust for years.
The trust’s board of trustees includes Ajit Pawar, NCP (SP), working president Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar, and Yugendra Pawar. All trustees are expected to attend the programme.
Their collective presence reinforces the institutional importance of the centre and underscores a rare moment of convergence within the extended Pawar political family.
Adani has contributed ₹25 crore to fund the centre, a gesture that Sharad Pawar had publicly acknowledged and praised earlier.
The funding reflects a growing intersection between private capital and public education, especially in frontier technologies that promise long-term economic and social dividends.
“This is a trustees’ programme, and all of us will be present. Gautam Adani is coming because he has funded the centre,” said Yogendra Pawar, nephew of Ajit Pawar and a leader from the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, underlining the formal and collective nature of the event.
Vision for an AI Hub in Western Maharashtra
The Sharadchandra Pawar Centre for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence aims to position Baramati as a regional hub for advanced research, skill creation and industry-oriented training.
Those involved with the project say the centre will focus on AI-driven solutions for agriculture, healthcare, governance and industrial applications, with strong collaboration between academia and the private sector.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader push to integrate emerging technologies into real-world governance and development models.
The Adani and Pawar families have maintained cordial relations for years, with Gautam Adani visiting Baramati on multiple occasions, including during Diwali.
Last year, he shared the stage with Pawar family members at a similar event that drew leaders across party lines, further normalising cross-political engagement around development-focused initiatives.
Sharad Pawar had earlier stated that the AI centre represents a national ambition.
“We are building India’s first centre of excellence on Artificial Intelligence, and timely support made this possible,” he had said while thanking Adani for the contribution.
Gautam Adani will inaugurate the centre tomorrow, highlighting a powerful blend of technology, trust, and political timing. The event will showcase this synergy as Maharashtra’s political equations continue to evolve.
