Former Amul’s Managing Director Joins Reliance Retail In An Advisory Role

RS Sodhi, former Managing Director (MD) of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which retails Amul, will now become part of Reliance Industries Limited’s expansion of its grocery arm. Reliance Retail Ventures Limited has roped in Sodhi in an advisory role. He will be giving necessary advice to connect Reliance Retail with the farmers.

According to sources cited in a Times of India report, Sodhi has been hired to support the company’s expansion in the grocery sector, with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables, and to bolster its presence in consumer brands. RS Sodhi has been the MD of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation since 2010, but he left the organisation on January 9.

According to the executives, his work at Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL), Reliance Industries’ grocery division, is vital to advancing the latter’s ambitious plans in the grocery industry. Moreover, a delivery network is being established by Reliance using an omni-channel approach.

The company has not formally confirmed the addition of top leadership at Reliance Retail. According to the report, RS Sodhi also declined to corroborate the news. It is anticipated that Sodhi’s experience from GCMMF will be beneficial for the business as it develops its goods to compete with Amul and Mother Diary.

The Reliance Group’s retail business entity, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, is presently the biggest retailer in the nation. Sodhi’s involvement in such a circumstance may be advantageous for bolstering the food industry, which is crucial for the expansion of the company. The success of the food industry depends on having strong relationships with the producer farmers, and Sodhi’s extensive leadership experience as head of the farmers’ organisation GCMMF will help Reliance Retail grow this industry.

RK Sodhi kickstarted his career in Amul as a Senior Sales Officer in March 1982 and ended up becoming the Managing Director of the company in June 2010.
