CEO and founder of SpaceX, billionaire Elon Musk has pitched for carbon di oxide tax to tackle the ongoing problem of climate change.
In a post on the social media site X on Wednesday, Musk stated that if appropriately imposed, a CO2 tax would afford significant leverage in addressing the issues caused by the rapidly growing CO2 levels.
He added, “If we do need something to tax, it should be something potentially harmful, instead of something potentially beneficial, as is done for vegetables and fruits, instead of tobacco and liquor.”

The tech mogul acknowledged that the long-term risk is extremely significant, even if one considers life simply at a fixed CO2 level, but he disagreed with others who think this issue will be disastrous in the next five to ten years.
In a graphic that was attached to his X post, he stated that while 400 parts per million is the optimal level of outdoor air, the current levels are substantially higher—at least 800 parts per million compared to the ideal—and that anything over 1000 parts per million would be considered out of control.
