The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully validated both the minimum and maximum range capabilities of its homegrown ‘Pralay’ missile system in a series of user evaluation trials conducted over two days off the coast of Odisha, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
The tests were carried out from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island on Monday and Tuesday.
The ‘Pralay’ missile, powered by solid propellant and featuring advanced guidance and navigation systems, demonstrated precise target engagement and met all mission objectives, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.
Tracking systems, including those deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) and instruments aboard a ship stationed near the impact zone, confirmed the missile’s accurate performance.
All subsystems operated as intended during the trials.
‘Pralay’ delivers multiple types of warheads and strikes a variety of targets, enhancing battlefield flexibility.
Its development involved collaboration among several DRDO laboratories such as the Research Centre Imarat, Defence Research and Development Laboratory, and Advanced Systems Laboratory, along with key industry partners like Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and several MSMEs.
Senior DRDO scientists, along with representatives from the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, and defence industry stakeholders, observed the trials.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industrial partners for the successful tests, noting that the advanced missile system will significantly bolster India’s strategic defence capabilities.
Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, praised the teams involved and said the completion of this phase of testing marks an important step towards the missile’s eventual deployment with the Armed Forces.
