Madhuri Jain Grover and Ashneer Grover are wed.
The Delhi High Court has granted permission to Ashneer Grover, co-founder of BharatPe, and his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, to travel abroad. They are allowed to visit the UK and Doha, Qatar, from September 28 to October 7. The court’s decision follows a previous restriction that allowed them to travel to the USA only if one spouse remained in India.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Concerns
A lookout circular had been issued against the Grovers. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police filed an FIR in 2022 against them for allegedly misappropriating Rs 81 crore from Resilient Innovations Private Limited, which operates the BharatPe UPI platform. The EOW opposed their request, citing concerns that they might flee and that the investigation is ongoing. More than 100 people have been questioned in the case.
Senior advocate Mohit Mathur, representing the Grovers, argued that the couple has scheduled events abroad and assured that their children will remain in India during the trip. The EOW highlighted that India does not have an extradition treaty with Qatar, raising concerns about Madhuri Jain Grover’s travel.
Justice Sanjeev Narula considered these arguments before granting the travel request, balancing the need for ongoing investigation with the Grovers’ personal commitments.
