During the Bengaluru Tech Summit, N R Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, voiced his disapproval of freebies and encouraged attendees to give back to society after using government services at reduced costs. He was giving a speech on Wednesday at the 26th Bengaluru Tech Summit 2023, which was held in the capital of Karnataka.
“I have nothing against services being offered for free. I completely comprehend, having once also come from a low-income family. However, I believe that in exchange for those who received those free subsidies, we should expect them to assume a slightly greater responsibility for improving the educational and performance outcomes of their own children and grandchildren. That’s my meaning,” he continued.
Murthy also explained that China, which faced exactly the same issues as we did, now has a GDP that is five or six times larger than India’s. “So all that I would humbly request our political leaders is to study China very very carefully, and then see what are the good things that we can learn from China and implement here, so that India too advances at the same pace as China, and becomes a nation that has reduced the poverty of its people,” he stated.
