Klaus Goersch
Klaus Goersch was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Air India on Friday, along with many other senior-level appointments.
Goersch will handle flight operations, engineering, ground operations, Integrated Operations Control, and cabin crew functions in the newly created role at the airline.
R S Sandhu, Air India’s current chief of operations, will transition to an advisory role.
Sandhu’s responsibilities will entail focusing on the harmonization of the four Tata Airlines’ operational procedures, the Airbus A350 entry-into-service program, and aiding the team in establishing the carrier’s new training academy, according to an Air India release.
Klaus Goersch was a licensed B777/787 pilot who had previously worked for British Airways and Air Canada.
Air India has also announced the appointment of Manish Uppal, who recently left AirAsia India a few months ago, as Senior Vice President for flight operations.
Air India Chief remarked on Goersch, “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that is valuable to the airline’s ongoing transformation”.
“At Air India, we remain committed to building top leadership as we continue to invest in all the resources that are required to take the airline to the upper echelons of global aviation”, Wilson continued.
Tata Group is in the midst of restructuring its airline operations after acquiring loss-making Air India in January last year.
AirAsia India (now AIX Connect) is being merged with Air India Express, while Vistara will be integrated with Air India.
Tatas and Singapore Airlines have partnered to form Vistara.
