A significant event unfolded for children with disabilities in Jharkhand this week as Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, visited the Pehla Kadam School and the Narayani Charitable Trust in Dhanbad, engaging closely with students and staff and pledging ongoing support for their development.
The school and trust provide comprehensive free services, including education, therapy and life‑skills training for children from economically disadvantaged families.
The visit, described by many as both inspiring and heartfelt, also drew an emotional response from Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation. In a social media reflection, she noted her deep admiration for the children’s courage and how their smiles fuelled a renewed commitment to service and inclusion.
Watching Gautam sit with these extraordinary children – listening, encouraging, singing the National Anthem, simply being present – was profoundly moving. It reminded me why service is our greatest responsibility.

A standout moment during Adani’s visit was the inauguration of ‘Nayi Udaan Café’, a vocational training café designed to empower children with disabilities by teaching them practical hospitality skills such as cooking, café management and customer service.
The initiative aims to equip students with the confidence and expertise needed to pursue dignified employment and independence in future.
At the café launch, Adani emphasised that such ventures not only impart vocational skills but also help children integrate with dignity into the broader community. His interaction with the students included listening to their personal stories and aspirations with genuine interest.
Long‑Term Support and Broader Impact
In addition to inaugurating the café, Adani reaffirmed his commitment to sustained engagement, pledging financial and institutional support to the Pehla Kadam School over the next three years.
Reports indicate that the group intends to channel significant resources, including an estimated ₹3 crore initiative to bolster services for differently‑abled children.
Educators and trustees expressed gratitude for the visit and the renewed momentum it brings to the school’s mission of fostering independence and resilience among students.
Many of the school’s pupils have already achieved recognition at national para‑sports events, reflecting their determination and potential.
Observers say the event highlights the role of collaborative efforts between industry leaders and social institutions in driving inclusive development.
The initiative underscores a broader commitment to support vulnerable communities, extend opportunities based on ability rather than limitation, and promote an inclusive society where every child can hope for a future of self‑reliance and respect.
