Adani Power Ltd (APL), India’s largest private thermal power producer, has secured a landmark project in Madhya Pradesh, becoming the first company in India to utilise the greenshoe option in a thermal power tender.
The company received a Letter of Award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) for an additional 800 MW, bringing the total awarded capacity to 1,600 MW.
The project involves the development of a 1,600 MW (2×800 MW) ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh.
Adani Power will develop both units under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model and commission them within 60 months of the appointed date.
APL plans to invest approximately ₹21,000 crore in setting up the plant and related infrastructure.
Massive Employment Generation
The project will generate direct and indirect employment for 9,000 to 10,000 individuals during the construction phase.
Once operational, it will create around 2,000 long-term jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy.
This latest award adds to APL’s growing portfolio of power projects. Over the last 12 months, the company has secured five major supply orders, bringing the total awarded capacity to 7,200 MW.

Adani Power will soon finalise the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the state’s electricity distribution companies (Discoms).
The authorities have awarded the additional 800 MW at a fixed tariff of ₹5.838/kWh, matching the rate of the initially allotted capacity.
Adani Power is currently implementing projects totalling 23.72 GW in capacity, with a target to reach 41.87 GW by 2031–32.
The Madhya Pradesh project plays a key role in this expansion, as it enhances India’s power generation capacity and actively drives economic and infrastructure development.
