Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s largest port developer and operator, has finalized a significant deal to expand its operations with a new multipurpose berth at Kandla Port in Gujarat.
The company has signed a concession agreement with the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to develop Berth No. 13.
In July 2024, APSEZ received a Letter of Intent (LOI) for this development, granting them a 30-year concession period for the berth’s operation. Under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, the berth will develop to handle a variety of clean cargo, including containerized cargo.
Berth No. 13 will span 300 meters and is designed to handle up to 5.7 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually.
The new facility is likely to commence operations in FY27.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO, APSEZ stated, “Berth No. 13 will diversify our presence at Deendayal Port. We will now handle multipurpose clean cargo at the port, in addition to dry bulk cargo that we already handle. The berth will further consolidate our position on the western coast and enhance our ability to service customers in Gujarat and north India.”
