Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking its entry into South America.
The contract was awarded to APSEZ’s step-down subsidiary, Adani Harbour International FZCO, through a consortium with Argentina-based Meridian Group following a global competitive tender conducted by Southern Energy SA (SESA).
The agreement strengthens APSEZ’s growing presence in international energy logistics and specialised marine services.
Under the contract, the Adani Group-Meridian consortium will provide comprehensive marine services for the Southern Energy FLNG project. These services include tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics support, supply services, and crew transportation.
The project will also utilise four high-specification tugboats, an anchor handling tug supply vessel, and a dedicated crew boat.
The consortium is likely to invest approximately $70 million to support operations.
APSEZ Chief Executive Officer Ashwani Gupta said the project reflects the company’s ability to support large-scale energy infrastructure projects across different geographies. He noted that APSEZ currently operates marine services in 12 countries.
Ashwani Gupta added that the company has extensive experience supporting ports, LNG terminals, refineries, and offshore facilities.
The contract also strengthens emerging energy ties between India and Argentina.
Argentina has agreements in place to export up to 10 million tonnes of LNG annually to India from 2027.
SESA, a joint venture between Golar LNG and Pan American Energy, is developing the Southern Energy FLNG project.
Located in Argentina’s Río Negro Province, the facility will also liquefy natural gas aboard the FLNG vessel ‘Hilli Episeyo’.
Commercial operations will likely commence in September 2027.
During its first phase, the project will likely produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, making it Argentina’s first operational LNG export project and a significant contributor to future global energy supply chains.
